Facial Trauma
General Information
There are several causes of facial trauma, unfortunately most of them come from traffic accidents. With the use of helmets and the implementation of airbags, these have decreased facial fractures. Approximately 70% of traffic accidents produce some type of facial injury. When a facial trauma occurs, whatever its cause, it is very important how quickly it is treated to prevent it from leading to other more serious problems.
The skull and facial bones constitute the most complex area of ββthe entire human skeleton. Even if they represent serious injuries, other problems such as airway control, hemodynamic stabilization, and evaluation of other major injuries to the head, chest, or skeleton must first be addressed.
